Abstract
Since 2015, we operate the examination system TUMexam at the Chair of Network Architectures and Services. Originally developed as a system for scanner exams, i.e., scanning conventional paper-based exams for evaluation of credits and multiple choice problems, it evolved to a platform additionally supporting online examinations, digital correction, and online reviews for students.
However, the look and feel of paper-based exams was never abandoned: for online examinations, students access a PDF document containing the problem statements at the beginning of the working time. This document can be edited digitally, e.g. using a tablet. Alternatively, it can be printed out by examiners (on site) or students (remotely), solved on paper and then scanned and digitized again. Finally, it is submitted online. It is even possible to mix both on-site and remote exams as long as the conditions regarding supervision and allowed tools remain comparable.
